Bespoke Oak Cabinets & Chests

Beautifully elegant and supremely functional handmade cabinets and chests. We work predominantly in English oak but also offer a choice of other hardwoods.

All our furniture is individually made and you may alter the size and design of most pieces so if you don’t see what you had in mind please just get in touch, we will be pleased to chat through your ideas with you.

Ammonia is used to “fume” the oak, this process enhances the unique natural grain of the timber and allows us to achieve a choice of colour finishes from natural through medium to dark oak.

You may choose between straighter grained timber or the beautiful patterns and knots found in "Burr" and "Pippy" oak (an additional charge is made for burr and “Pippy” oak). Knots are always present in timber, and are found where branches were once attached to the main trunk and boughs and then enveloped within the grain as the tree grows. When a board is cut vertically from a tree trunk, the knot will resemble a circle of darker wood within the grain. Each board is unique and the knots and grain patterns add character to the furniture.

Creating a honeycombed effect is a highly skilled technique called “adzing” and this can be requested as an optional extra finish to the cabinet tops or panels. Other optional extras can include pewter, nickle, brass or wrought iron fittings, turned drawer and door knobs.
